Messengers was inspired by many stories that have been passed down through ancient cultures of the Americas, the only region in which hummingbirds are found. According to these stories, hummingbirds travel between the physical and spiritual worlds, bringing messages to and from our ancestors.  Ruby-throated Hummingbirds migrate 500 miles across the Gulf of Mexico twice a year, without stopping for food or water.  These tiny birds find the much-needed nectar in the 19th century woman’s bonnet, as they prepare to embark on a long voyage, or just arrive from one.  In return, hummingbirds can go on to pollinate the 7,000 flower species that depend on them for their survival.
